Stress/Anxiety

Stress getting you down or anxiety leaving you feeling on edge….

Stress is ever-present in this modern age, as we are constantly under pressure to meet deadlines, work, pay bills, pay mortgages, multi-task, maintain relationships, run households, raise children, and so much more, and to do all of it on a daily basis.

Because of these demanding pressures we face, many people often become overwhelmed and suffer with stress-related effects in their lives. Stress is a full-body reaction and, when in check, it can help us to operate in situations needing great attention and demand (such as in meeting a deadline, encountering an emergency situation, or performing well in an important meeting).

The problems with stress often begin when your stress levels become out of balance, to the point where they are ever-present in your life and you are constantly in a state of stress. This stressful state is often refered to as the fight-or-flight reaction, and can become a huge drain on your energy reserves when you are living with it non-stop. When you are constantly in a stressful state, all areas of your mind and body can become affected - stress can then affect the way you think, the way you feel, how your body operates, and how you behave – all of which may have a big impact on your life and on your relationships to others.

Some signs and symptoms of being overwhelmed by stress and/or anxiety may include:

  • headaches
  • aches/pains
  • sleep disturbances
  • lack of energy
  • lack of motivation
  • frustration
  • irritability
  • lack of concentration
  • feeling overwhelmed
  • unhappiness/depression
  • loneliness/isolation
  • anxious/racing thoughts
  • constant negative thinking
  • poor memory
  • eating disturbances
  • using alcohol/drugs/cigarettes to relax
  • isolating yourself from others

Similar to stress is anxiety. Anxiety issues occur often from being in a constant state of stress, for a long period of time, until the point where you become worried and fearful and expect things to go terribly wrong without there being any reason for terrible mishaps to occur. Anxiety becomes a problem when you are dreading and worrying something bad or awful is going to happen at any moment even though there is no real threat in your life and you are safe and secure.

Living with stress or anxiety can negatively impact your quality of life and your relationship with others, and when it does, it is certainly time to deal with it. Stress and anxiety can overwhelm you and can squeeze the life-energy and joy out of your life - but your life doesn't have to feel like this.

Life is about balance of mind, body and spirit; when stress and anxiety take over, the solution to this simply becomes a matter of bringing balance back into your life. Getting your life back into balance can be done with the help of a qualified professional who has your best interest and quality of life at heart and who deeply believes that you can have a positive experience in life!
